Business Organizations by State

NASC has added to previous research detailing which states have separate state chamber and manufacturer organizations to include state business roundtables and similar organizations. Unlike state chamber and manufacturer organizations (which are usually affiliated with either the U.S. Chamber or the National Association of Manufacturers, or both), state business roundtables (BRTs) are not affiliated with the national Business Roundtable. Therefore, the activity level and influence of state BRTs vary greatly depending on the state. We have identified seventeen BRT type organizations in the states.

Historical Notes

  • 2017 - Oregon: Associated Oregon Industries (AOI) merged with the Oregon Business Association and renamed itself Oregon Business & Industry (OBI).
  • 2016 – Pennsylvania: The Pennsylvania Business Council merges with Pennsylvania Chamber.
  • 2007 – Arizona: The Arizona Chamber of Commerce & Industry merged with the Arizona Association of Industries.
  • 1995 – Texas: Texas Association of Business merged with the Texas Chamber of Commerce.
  • 1985 – Alabama: Alabama Chamber of Commerce merged with the Association of Industries and Manufacturers to create the Business Council of Alabama (BCA).
  • 1980 – New York: The Empire State Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of New York State, Inc. consolidated into the Business Council of New York State.
  • 1976 – Wisconsin: After two years of negotiation, the Wisconsin Manufacturers' Association merged with the Wisconsin State Chamber of Commerce to become the Wisconsin Association of Manufacturers and Commerce (WMC).
  • 1971 – Connecticut: The Manufacturers Association of Connecticut merged with Connecticut Chamber of Commerce.
  • 1966 – Nebraska: The Associated Industries of Nebraska merged with the Nebraska Chamber of Commerce.
  • 1965 – Colorado: The Colorado Chamber of Commerce merged with and the Colorado Manufacturer’s Association.
  • Arkansas: The Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce and Associated Industries of Arkansas are private, non-profit corporations that are totally funded by dues from our members. Each organization has its own officers and its own directors, but both share headquarters and professional staff in Little Rock.
